Coyote Learning Institute teaches the skill of natural history observation, with an emphasis on Wildlife Track and Sign identification. We marvel at nature's wonders, donate our time to habitat restoration and wildlife survey projects, turn over rocks, and recognize our role as 'just another species among species'. Coyote Learning is a tribute to the concept of 'Coyote Teaching', where answers to nature or tracking mysteries are not immediately provided, but instead, one gently leads a student or field partner to 'self-solve' through evaluation of the evidence, additional questioning, checking of assumptions, and mutual insights. Answers are not guaranteed because tracks and sign can be obscure, eroded, or observers may be myopic regarding the evidence at hand. Uncertainty is embraced as part of the learning process and valued as a mystery that may be solved another day!
